About

Brenda Foster, MS, CHES®

Hello, My name is Brenda and I am a health expert. I'm here to help you with all your health needs like: health coaching, personal training, nutrition, meal planning, meal prep, grocery store tours, tobacco cessation, and much more.

I have a bachelor of arts in pre-medicine and psychology that I earned from Concordia University. I also have my master of science in health education that I earned from Eastern Michigan University. I am a certified health education specialist (CHES®) and a personal trainer with a NASM background.

I started on my journey to creating Foster Healthy Living after I was laid off from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine in July 2017. I was about to give birth to my first son, Oliver, when I had learned that my company was being bought out by UNLV and that my position, health educator, was not transitioning over. At this point I had a newborn and 6 months before I wasn't going to have a financial means to help provide.

During this time, I signed up to pursue a personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

I found myself at a cross roads, finding a new job to supplement financially or begin a new road where I pursue my passion for helping people become their healthiest self. I came from a home where my family had chronic diseases and were obese. My mother has a long list of chronic diseases that only seem to improve with becoming healthier. So knowing my background, the decision was easy; start Foster Healthy Living.

I have always struggled with body image issues. As a teenager, being raised by my grandparents, I always found it difficult to discuss important issues like self confidence and self-esteem. I, like many people I knew growing up, turned to the TV and magazines for advice. I learned that people seemed to love celebrities as long as they were gorgeous and thin. If the celebrities had a bad day and their makeup wasn't perfect or they gained any weight, the media and the general public criticized them harshly. So, unfortunately, I learned that if I wasn't thin and pretty that I needed to criticize myself. Over time, I have learned that type of thinking is dangerous and only hurts my self-image and ultimately leads to no self esteem. Thankfully I met a wonderful man, Jordan, who say past my self-loathing and changed my view. We got married and now have our first son, Oliver.

It is vitally important to surround yourself with people who can encourage you and to help you up when you feel down. That's why I'm here to help!
